Non-conference games with Appalachian State, Charlotte, North Carolina and Virginia give Davidson’s 2017-18 basketball schedule a familiar feel, but there are also a few new elements on the latest Wildcats’ schedule released Wednesday.

Perhaps most notably, a fifth of Davidson’s regular season games will be played on Fridays, with five of those six games appearing on national TV. Davidson has played four regular season Friday games in the three years since joining the Atlantic 10.

In contrast, the Wildcats will have one Saturday game at home (Feb. 17 vs. UMass) after playing 21 the previous three seasons.

The schedule also features a debut in the eight-team, ESPN-backed Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu Dec. 22-25 and a first-ever meeting with the Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno Nov. 21.

The season begins Friday, Nov. 10 at home against Charleston Southern. Davidson will visit Appalachian State (Nov. 25) for the first time since the longtime rivals exited the Southern Conference together after the 2013-14 season, and look to extend their series win streak to five games against rival Charlotte when they step onto the 49ers’ home floor Nov. 28.

The Wildcats will meet defending national champion North Carolina Friday, Dec. 1 at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center, marking the fifth consecutive season the Wildcats have faced Roy Williams’ Tar Heels.

A Dec. 16 trip to Virginia marks the third time in five years the Cavaliers have appeared on Davidson’s schedule.

The remaining non-conference match-ups are home games against UNC Wilmington (Nov. 14) and VMI (Dec. 5). Davidson will host Division III Hampden-Sydney in an exhibition Friday, Nov. 3.

Davidson’s A-10 schedule, released last week, begins Saturday, Dec. 30 at Richmond, followed by the first league home game Jan. 3 against Saint Louis.

In coach Bob McKillop's words
“The makeup of this year's schedule will present significant challenges at home, on the road, and at neutral sites. A mix of top-20 programs, long-time rivalries, and new faces will provide exciting and highly competitive basketball for our program and for our fans.”
