Davidson Day improved to 2-0 with its second 60-point performance, winning 62-34. “We have great kids,” said DDS coach Chad Grier. “They get after it and compete. We don’t have a lot (26 players on the roster), but the ones we’ve got, they compete, they battle.”
DDS sophomore quarterback Will Grier was 26-of-35 passing for 478 yards and threw for six touchdowns, giving him 11 already this year. He ran for another score, while nursing a leg injury.
Aaron Seward and Evan Gates were Grier’s top targets in the passing game, combining for 12 receptions and 289 yards. Mike Stevens added three scores, while Jordan Brown scored on a reception and on an 80-yard kick return. Grayson Buck, Lamar Briggs and Glen Coats intercepted passes for DDS.
The delayed game forced a short week for the Patriots, who travel to South Carolina to play Camden Military on Friday, the third of nine DDS road games this year. “We’re kinda wearing this road warrior thing as a badge of honor,” said Chad Grier.
