SLCA’s strongest man

If SouthLake Christian’s team bus ever breaks down, the Eagles may save money on towing costs. Coach Rich Landis can just ask senior Scott Richardson to get out and push or pull the bus.

The son of a former strength coach at Siena University, Richardson is a heavy lifting champion who spends up to three hours a day in the weight room.

“It’s just what I love to do,” says Richardson. “I do it because I love it.”

This summer, as a 17-year-old, he won the teens’ Republic of Texas Strongest Man Competition. He holds the national record in the Conan’s wheel event (378 ft.), bench presses 405 pounds and squats and dead lifts 600.

At the Shrine Bowl Combine, he set a record by benching 185 pounds 47 times.

Richardson, who stands six feet and weights 240 pounds, moved to the area from New Mexico last September. Unable to play football because of his late arrival, he began training with local strong man athletes.

“Flip tires, pull cars, that’s what we do,” says Richardson.

The new Eagle can also play football.

He was all-state as a defensive end during his sophomore year.
