Davidson’s McKillop to play in Denmark

Written by

Davidson College graduate Brendan McKillop will play professional basketball with the Bakken Bears in Aarhus, Denmark. The former Wildcat guard travelled Tuesday to join his new team, which opens the season late this month.

The Bears won the Danish League Championship last year, posting a 24-3 record in the regular season.

“I’m very excited that I have been presented with the opportunity to continue playing basketball as a professional,” said McKillop. “Everything I’ve been told about the Bakken Bears organization and the city of Aarhus has been great, so I consider myself lucky to have such an excellent opportunity.”

A former ball boy for his father Bob’s Davidson team, McKillop played in 117 games at Davidson and compiled 831 points, 254 assists, 215 rebounds and 70 steals. His 216 career 3-pointers is fourth in program history.

As a senior, he started all 32 games he played in and averaged 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He tied his career-high with seven threes against Charlotte in an 82-68 win last Dec. 11.

McKillop was recently named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honor Court for his work in the classroom. He maintained a 3.29 grade-point average while majoring in sociology.

The youngest child of the Davidson coach, Brendan follows in the footsteps of his father and brother Matt, who each played professionally.

Matt played for a few months in the Czech Republic before injuring his knee, while Bob signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1972, but was cut before the team’s 9-73 season.

“I was cut from the worst team in NBA history,” Bob McKillop has often joked.

Brendan is ready to take his shot at pro ball.

“It’s been a dream of mine my whole life to one day be a professional basketball player, and I thank my family, my coaches, my teammates and all members of the Davidson family for helping to make this dream come true,” said Brendan.
