Legion team ousted

Written by

Sudden and emphatic exits in the Area IV playoffs have been the end result for Huntersville American Legion Post 321’s baseball team the last two years, and as he reflected on this summer’s season, Huntersville coach Trevin Smith remained confident that the program with back-to-back Eastern Division regular season titles would one day make a deep postseason run.

“It’ll happen,” he said.

Huntersville finished the year 22-4 after going 19-1 in the regular season, sweeping Burke County Post 21 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs and falling in three games to Hickory Post 48 in the second round. By the time Hickory beat Huntersville 25-11 last Wednesday to end Post 321’s season, Huntersville’s roster had dwindled to just 12 players for various reasons, and the team that was once rolling was no longer intact.

But Smith said he will remember the 22 wins the team had in a month.

“That’s a lot of games to win in a short amount of time,” said Smith.DDS needs JV coach
