CSD a finalist for travel grant

Written by

Community School of Davidson is a surprise finalist in a competition that could net the school more than $1 million in travel incentives.

The school, on Armour Street, is one of four entities in North America still in the running for the Million Dollar Memo prize sponsored by Tourism Queensland.

Teacher Jennifer Chaffman, acting on a whim, prepared a short submission video and entered CSD in the competition. She was notified this week that the school is one of 70 companies worldwide still being considered for the reward, which would provide travel vouchers and incentives for travel to Queensland, Australia.

Now through July 1, supporters are urged to view, like and share the link to Community School of Davidson’s video at www.MillionDollarMemo.com. There is also an opportunity to vote for the winner.

If the school does win, Chaffman said prize would be used for a staff retreat.

“Our annual staff retreat is a time for renewal ... a time to reflect on what we’ve done in the past and what we hope to do in the future,” she says. “The opportunity to bring that retreat to a new place, like Australia, is too fabulous to imagine.”

She said a staff retreat to Australia would also give the staff a chance to visit schools and share education ideas and innovations with teachers and students from that society.
