The swim teams from Hough and Lake Norman Charter, which combined for a state title and three runners-up in the team standings last weekend, showed up for their respective state championships essentially with a head start, thanks to the diving of their teammates, who competed the day before.

The divers from Hough and LNC swept the state titles at the 4A and 1A/2A levels, respectively, providing early points.

For Hough, Blair Timberlake won the girls' diving title with 377.50 points, and Harrison Mitchell won the boys' 4A title for the Huskies with a score of 462.80.

LNC's Adyson Lowe claimed the girls' 1A/2A title with 411.45 points, while Nathan Lane's 325.80 score gave him the 1A/2A boys' championship.

The wins were worth 20 points each, but both schools also racked up points behind the winners. LNC's Erin Lee took third in the girls' competition, picking up another 16 points for the Lady Knights, while Hough's Karly Adams (seventh) and Morgan Donnelly (12th) added another 17 points to the Lady Huskies' tally.

All the divers from LNC and Hough train with Carolina Diving Academy at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center.

"I couldn't be more proud of our divers," said CDA head coach and program director Aaron Hintz. "The results aside, this is one of the best groups of young athletes any coach could hope to work with."

Another CDA diver, Marvin Ridge's Sara Maleski, won the 3A girls' title, meaning that five of the six state champion divers train at HFFA.
