The noon matchup is part of the Sears BracketBusters and will be televised live on either ESPN or ESPN2. The BracketBusters series, in partnership with ESPN, includes 26 NCAA Tournament hopefuls playing one another.
As part of the agreement, Davidson will play a return game at Wichita State in either November or December of next season. The Shockers, currently 18-4 overall and 9-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play, are coached by former Winthrop coach Gregg Marshall.
Davidson was 15-5 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Conference entering Wednesday's road game at Furman. The Wildcats play their next two games at home, including Saturday against Chattanooga (4 p.m.) and Monday against Wofford (7 p.m.).
Still atop the SoCon South Division, Davidson's lead was narrowed this past week when Samford became the first league team to defeat the Wildcats and snapped an eight-game Wildcats' winning streak. The Bulldogs beat Davidson 77-74 on Saturday in Birmingham, led by Jeffrey Merritt's 20 points and the 15 of Drew Windler. De'Mon Brooks was the top Wildcat scorer, posting 20 points. Nik Cochran added 18 and JP Kuhlman 14 for Davidson.
The Wildcats narrowly escaped defeat two days before, winning 64-63 at Chattanooga when Cochran, one of the nation's best free throw shooters, made the go-ahead free throw and then intentionally missed the second of two with 1.2 seconds remaining, allowing time to expire before the Mocs could counter.
Kuhlman (16 points) and Jake Cohen (10) led the Wildcats against Chattanooga.
Hopewell High product Brooks leads the Wildcats with 15.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
