Point guard Rashun Davis led Davidson Day with 16 points, five assists and three steals in the win over Northside. Dorian Albritton scored 16 points and had five boards.

Against Hickory Christian, Davis led the way with 19 points and six assists, while Phillip Anglade had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Richard Brown chipped in with 10 points and eight boards.

LNC girls roll to win

The Lake Norman Charter girls improved to 10-4 with a 73-23 win over Bessemer City last Friday. The Lady Knights overcame a slow start to finish with a flurry, scoring 46 points in the second half for the runaway victory.

"We'd lost two in a row in the (Southern Piedmont Conference), so we needed this one to get back on track," said LNC coach Bobby Williams. "We started out really slow, but that's the first time we've put up 70 this year, so that's kind of nice."

Sophomore center Ezinne Mbamalu continued her good form with a double-double that included 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah McIntosh and Alex Busch contributed 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Knights were without several key players against the Yellow Jackets, most notably senior guard Jamie Williams, who left the team earlier in the week for personal reasons.

The win left the Knights in a tie for second with Lincolnton in the SPC standings at 5-2. The two teams are set to face off this Friday at Lincolnton. In the previous meeting Jan. 11, Lincolnton came away with a 33-30 victory at LNC, a result Williams is looking to reverse.

"That was a tough one for me," he said. "We feel like we're a better team than them, and we're going to their house for revenge hopefully."

LNC boys fall late

Lake Norman Charter's boys led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter last Friday, but lost 41-38 on a buzzer-beater by Bessemer City's Jearrard Wright and fell to 8-6 on the season.

With just more than two minutes remaining, the Knights led 38-29, but things quickly unraveled.

"It's pretty devastating because that's a definitely a beatable team," said LNC coach Aaron Reeves. "There's no reason it should come down to that if we execute like we're supposed to."

The downfall began when the Knights were charged with consecutive technical fouls after Reeves approached the referees for a timeout.

"I was asking for a timeout, and the guy didn't hear me," he said. "I went out to half court to tell him I had a timeout, and I guess he didn't like how I approached him."

Bessemer City guard Justin Wright sank all four free throws, cutting the Knights' lead to five. A layup on the Yellow Jackets' next possession set the stage for Wright to hit the first of two late threes that propelled the Yellow Jackets to victory.

The sophomore guard connected from outside the arc to tie the game at 38-38 with 20 seconds remaining. Wright struck again from deep with just one second on the clock on a catch and shoot inbounds play from under the Knights' basket, handing LNC the heartbreaking loss.

The Knights continued to spread the offense around with Alex Scearce and Davis Elkins leading the way with nine points each. Devon Tabor added eight points.
