Heath in Spartanburg this week

Written by  Justin Parker

Hopewell High linebacker/running back Denzel Heath, the first Shrine Bowl selection in the school's 11 years, has been busy with Shrine Bowl activities this week in Spartanburg, S.C.

Heath and the other selected high school seniors from North and South Carolina arrived in Spartanburg last Saturday and have spent this week practicing twice a day. Last Sunday, he visited the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, something to which Heath said last week he was looking forward.

Heath, who rushed for more than 1,700 yards this fall, is currently undecided on college, but has received strong interest from Appalachian State, Howard, N.C. A&T, N.C. Central, South Carolina State and Western Carolina, among others.

The 75th Shrine Bowl is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wofford College's Gibbs Stadium.
