Cats remain winless in the PFL
Davidson led Campbell by 14 points in the fourth quarter last Saturday, but lost 26-20 in triple overtime in Pioneer Football League action.
Campbell quarterback Braden Smith scored on a 5-yard run in the third overtime, and Campbell's Steth Monroe intercepted a pass on Davidson's possession to seal the win. Chris Gorman was a bright spot for Davidson (2-6 overall, 0-5 PFL), rushing for 151 yards and a score on 27 carries. Wildcats receiver Lanny Funsten caught nine passes for 87 yards, while Jonathan Adams added nine for 78 yards.
Davidson looked to ice the contest with a long drive late in the fourth quarter, getting the ball at its own 20 with 8:03 left, but facing a fourth-and-4, Davidson didn't convert, giving Campbell the ball back with 1:26 left. The Camels (5-3, 4-2) then drove the field and tied the game.
"We have to go get it," said Davidson coach Tripp Merritt. "If we convert that, we win the game."
The Wildcats play their final road game of the season at Butler Saturday.
