Three gymnasts who train at Huntersville’s Everest Gymnastics competed in the P&G Gymnastics Championships at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., last month and turned in notable performances.

Hamlet native Ashton Locklear, an alternate on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team and a senior international elite gymnast, placed second on the uneven bars and 10th on the beam in the senior competition.

Huntersville’s Marissa Oakley, now of the University of Georgia, tied for third on the uneven bars in the senior competition, and Mooresville’s Lauren Little (below) was 16th overall in the junior competition.

All three train with Everest coaches and owners Qi Han and Yiwen Chen.

“What a tremendous honor it is to have three of our own Everest gymnasts compete in the P&G Gymnastics Championship,” said Han. “They’ve worked hard to have this opportunity and we’re very proud of their results.”

Everest Gymnastics opened in 2004 and operates a 20,000 square-foot facility just off N.C. 73 on Parr Street.
