Pats take unbeaten record to Asheville

Davidson Day will try to win one for its athletic director this week.

In other words, the Patriots hope to do what they’ve done all year.

The 5-0 Patriots play at Asheville School Friday, where first-year athletic director Matt Neville most recently served in multiple roles, including head football coach.

Davidson Day won its fifth game of the year last week, and did so by a 39-21 against Parkwood, a 3A public school from Union County.

Jordan Brown rushed for 153 yards on 13 carries and also had seven tackles to lead the Patriots, who trailed 21-8 at the half before unloading 23 unanswered points in the third quarter.

A 30-yard touchdown pass from Will Grier to Aaron Seward jump started the Patriots after halftime. Brown then scored on a 4-yard run to give the Patriots the lead for good. Grier also hit Evan Gates for a 58-yard touchdown pass and Seward for a 20-yard score in the second half.

Grier ran for two 2-point conversions and threw for two more. He finished with 207 yards and three scores on 11-of-22 passing.
