“We have a great guy,” says North athletic director Kevin Wilson. “No one can question his credentials. He’s a winner.”
Carter graduated from Davidson and played in the New York Yankees organization. He will begin teaching marketing at North Sept. 13.
Carter replaces Trevin Smith, Huntersville Post 321‘s American Legion coach, who coached the Vikings on an interim basis last year.
North has also filled its cheerleading coaching opening, E. Parker Morse comes to North from West Charlotte.
She will teach English.
LNC’s Hardin paces local CC pack
Lake Norman Charter runner Sarah Hardin placed 29th in the Providence Invitational, the best finish among runners from northern Mecklenburg schools.
Hardin posted a time of 20:25 as LNC’s girls placed 15th with 432 points. Teammate Stephanie Zaino was 46th with a time of 21:02.
The LNC boys were led by Chris Hack (46th, 17:28), Jordan Wallace (52nd, 17:32) and Sean Powers (56th, 17:36) and took 11th with 328 points.
Both of Hough’s teams finished 22nd. The Lady Huskies totaled 603 points and were led by Lexi Powers (79th, 21:45) and Breana Jenkins (82nd, 21:47). The Hough boys tallied 628 points. Stephen Hansen was the top Husky runner, finishing 97th with a time of 18:06, one spot behind Hopewell’s best performer, Nate Nash (18:05).
Hough ties Myers Park
The Hough soccer team returned to action Tuesday after a week away from competition, tying Myers Park 1-1.
Tanner Roberts scored the lone Husky goal with six minutes remaining on an assist by Nathaniel Goodwin. The Huskies were 2-1-1 entering Thursday’s match at Providence. Hopewell’s soccer team picked up its first win Monday in a 3-2 victory over Berry. Edwin Gomez, Marcel Boss and Cole Tesar scored for Hopewell. Gomez and Tesar also scored in Hopewell’s 6-2 loss
to Providence last week. The Titans were 1-1-1 entering a road game at Ardrey Kell Thursday.
Lake Norman Charter is 3-0-1 after a 2-0 win over Cox Mill Tuesday. Tommy Mikuleza and Ryan Jones scored for the Knights, while Christian Hall notched the shutout. LNC plays at Central Academy
Friday.
Huskies hosting 8-team soccer event
Hough High will host the first Hough Soccer Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10, at the school’s stadium, beginning at 3 p.m. The eight-team event is to support research for pediatric cancer and is being held in partnership with the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer organization. Tickets are $7 and include all four games.
Hough will close the night with a match against Charlotte Catholic at 8:15.
Lovedale 5K set for next Saturday
Davidson College’s cross country trail will be the site of the inaugural Kicks from Cats: The Andrew Lovedale 5K Saturday, Sept. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Access to Success, which was founded by Lovedale, a member of Davidson’s 2008 Elite Eight men’s basketball team.
