Meghan Fillnow, a triathlete and third grade teacher at SouthLake Christian, finished second in the 20-25 women's age division at the Aquadraat Sports Ironman U.S. Championships Aug. 11 in New York City.
She swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles and completed the 140.6-mile event in 10 hours, 45 minutes and three seconds.
Glenn goes to Chowan
Former Hopewell High girls' basketball player T'Shea Glenn has signed to played at Chowan University. Glenn, who graduated last spring, played point guard for the Titans and averaged six points and 2.4 steals per game last year. She was named Hopewell's defensive player of the year.
Glenn is the second Lady Titan from the 2011 class to sign with a college. Shareé Boyd signed with Wingate.
Hopewell, LNC open with soccer wins
The boys' soccer teams from Hopewell and Lake Norman Charter started the season with victories Tuesday night.
LNC defeated Covenant Classical 5-1 at home behind goals from Lawson Owen, Evan Lucas, Zach Quest, Collin Turner and Keegan Hahn. Hopewell beat Olympic 4-1 on the road. Mark Hoogendoorn, Harrison Thomas, Cole Tesar and Christian Portillo provided the Titan goals.
LNC holds Lax clinic
Lake Norman Charter will hold a boys and girls lacrosse clinic for players entering grades 5-12 on Sept. 8, 15 and 22. Each session will last three hours. The cost is $80 and is payable to the LNC Athletic Booster Club.
Open to the general public, the clinics will feature coaches from Belmont-Abbey College, who will work with high school players. The LNC coaching staff will work with the younger players.

Punt, Pass and Kick event is Saturday
The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition is Saturday at 9 a.m. at Huntersville Athletic Park.
The free competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-15. Points are awarded based on distance and accuracy. The top performers in eight age groups at the local competition will advance to the sectional round. A group of sectional champions will then compete during a Carolina Panthers game.
A birth certificate is required to register. Cleats are not allowed for the competition.
