Four Eagles all-state

SouthLake Christian's football team has four representatives on the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association's Division II team.

Troy Lowden, Demetri Allison, Scott Richardson and Taylor Jurney were honored after the Eagles reached the state semifinals and went 10-2.

Jurney, Lowden and Richardson join Davidson Day's Tre Hunt as local athletes selected for Friday's Oasis Shrine All-Star Game at Charlotte Country Day.

Wildcats close with second straight win

Davidson College's football team wrapped up the season with a 30-22 win over Valparaiso last Saturday. It was Davidson's second straight win in the Pioneer Football League and brought the Wildcats' final record to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Davidson's Jonathan Carkhuff threw for 371 yards on 34-of-55 passing. He connected with Lanny Funsten for 13 completions and 175 yards and two scores and hit Jonathan Adams for 12 completions for 122 yards.

Carkhuff finished the season with 3,326 passing yards and 348 completions, which are both school records, and Funsten caught a school-record 100 passes this fall as Davidson transitioned to the Air Raid offense.

"Our offense is a progression offense, and you have to be in synch," said Adams. "We made a lot of improvements from the beginning of the season to now, and that's just going to continue into next season."
