DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Latta Baucom has been appointed to begin head of school duties at Davidson Day School starting next July.

Baucom’s selection to succeed Gene Bratek, DDS interim head of school, was announced last week by the school’s board of trustees.

Baucom is currently head of the upper school at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Fla., a facility recognized as the preeminent college preparatory educational institution in that region.

“Dr. Baucom is an independent school veteran and a visionary with great integrity,” said Richard Gordon, chairman of the DDS Board of Trustees. “Exciting times are ahead for Davidson Day School.”

Prior to joining The Benjamin School, Baucom was head of the upper school at All Saints’ Academy in Winter Haven, Fla., and in 2001 he and his father co-founded a small private school in Pretoria, South Africa.

Baucom graduated with honors from Wake Forest University with a degree in economics and earned an MBA at Baylor University. He recently completed work toward a doctorate degree in education from Nova Southeastern University.
