DAVIDSON, N.C. — A sultry New Orleans summer proves too much for a former beauty whose brutish brother-in-law cruelly exposes a genteel façade as Davidson Community Players brings to life A Streetcar Named Desire Feb. 23-March 12 at Armour Street Threatre in Davidson.

This award-winning masterpiece by Tennessee Williams follows troubled former school teacher Blanche DuBois as she leaves small-town Mississippi and moves in with her sister, Stella Kowalski, and her husband, Stanley, in New Orleans. Blanche’s flirtatious, Southern-belle presence causes problems for Stella and Stanley, who already have a volatile relationship. Williams’ portrait of sex, class and secrets is regarded as one of the finest plays of the 20th century.

A Streetcar Named Desire is directed by Sylvia Schnople. Advance tickets cost $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 704-892-7953 or online at
