Each participating Curves center, including the one at 463 E. Plaza Drive in Mooresville, will
focus on three important goals in support of this annual campaign, including helping women
learn the facts about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, encouraging women to work out three times a week to help reduce their breast cancer risk and participating in fundraising efforts to support the research and outreach efforts of the American Cancer Society (ACS).
According to statistics from the ACS, one woman in eight will be diagnosed with invasive
breast cancer in her lifetime, a disease expected to strike more than 230,000 women this year alone. With only about five to 10 percent of breast cancers being hereditary, prevention can play a key role in a woman’s risk management strategy.
“Curves’ mission has always been to strengthen women,” says Curves founder Diane Heavin.
“Typically, women are caregivers, but when it comes to breast cancer, women need to understand how important it is to take care of themselves. Scheduling an annual doctor visit, performing a monthly breast self-exam, eating a nutritious diet and making time for regular exercise are all things that a woman can do to stay strong.”
