Arson comes close to CPD station

Written by

Just when it seemed that Cornelius’ arson problems were finally solved with the arrest of a man in connection with a series of house fires in the Glenridge subdivision, arson struck a little closer to home. Last week, a Cornelius Police Department patrol car, parked in a lot next to CPD headquarters, was burned around midday by an apparent arsonist.

Early this week, the CPD released images of their prime suspect and, according to Capt. Jeff Ramsey, were set to make an arrest Wednesday afternoon. “We know who did it and we are executing the paperwork so we can make an arrest,” Ramsey said Wednesday.

The fire was set on Wednesday, Sept. 28, sometime between 11:59 a.m. and 12:09 p.m. in the parking lot of Rite Aid, which is adjacent to the Cornelius Police Department.
