Each workshop will culminate in free public performances. Productions under consideration are The Wind in the Willows, Scapino and A Thousand Cranes, and will be directed by Wrenn Goodrum. Performances will be in January or February depending on the production. All classes and rehearsals are held at the Armour Street Theatre. Davidson Community Players hopes to place every child who attends the audition in either the production of Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr., which opens Nov. 5, or in a workshop group.
Youth ages 8-18 may attend auditions either on Friday Sept. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon or 1-3 p.m. Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the session and plan to remain for the entire session. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and be prepared to move. Bring a resume or list of theatre experience, a recent picture and list of conflicts for the September to February timeframe.
The audition will consist of improvisation, group games and a short reading that will be provided. A participation fee of $225 will help defray instructional and production costs. Each workshop provides roughly 50 hours of instruction, plus script and basic production materials. Workshop performances are offered free of charge. Scholarships are available.
Traditional weekly classes for children ages 4-5 and 6-7 are available as well. Classes begin the week of Sept. 26. Register at www.d-recs.org. Scholarships are available for all classes and camps.
