DPD accredited by CALEA

Written by

The Davidson Police Department earned a highly-prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. At a recent awards dinner in Cincinnati, Ohio, DPD was awarded accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA). Less than one percent of agencies the size of the DPD achieve full accreditation, which requires that the agency prove its adherence to 464 standards.

Police Chief Jeanne Miller says the department was thrilled at its achievement. “Years of hard work and diligent preparation have finally paid off,” she says. “I am so proud of our department and its dedicated officers and staff, and I am very thankful for the support of our town manager, Leamon Brice, and our Board of Commissioners.”

The DPD began its process toward accreditation in 2008 and received formal Recognition status from CALEA in July of that year. In late April and early May 2011, a team of assessors visited Davidson for three days to examine all aspects of the DPD’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services as a part of the accreditation process.

Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attestingcontinued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. For more information about the accreditation process, visit www.ci.davidson.nc.us/calea.
