Warrior Dash Carolinas by Red Frog Events, hosted by Visit Lake Norman and Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville, will be held Aug. 27-28. Already, more than 12,000 people, close to the limit of 14,000, have registered to attend and/or participate.
Famous — or infamous depending on individual accounts — for grueling terrains, demanding and dirty obstacles, Warrior Dash provides runners with a wild obstacle course featuring everything from mud bogs tinged with barbed wire to flame-throwing fire pits requiring strong nerves and confident leapers.
“Warrior Dash is an event that runners and spectators will never forget,” Red Frog’s Alex Yount says. “After conquering an insane physical challenge, racers celebrate with live music, beer and food alongside their fellow warriors, friends and family.
The Rural Hill course will be a 3.8-mile trek of extreme environments and 11 obstacles.
The race’s first wave will leave the starting line at 9 a.m. Saturday. Subsequent waves of runners, each 500 strong, will take off to battle the course at 30-minute intervals until 4:30 p.m. The Sunday heats will begin at 9 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to dress in their best warrior attire and fuzzy helmets will be distributed to eager runners prior to the race.
Turkey legs and other food items will be available and music will be provided throughout the day.
“We are proud to host Warrior Dash Carolinas,” says Jeff Fissel, Rural Hill’s executive director. “We are excited to have the opportunity to expose Historic Rural Hill, all of our great programming and beautiful venue to such a large and enthusiastic crowd.”
Rural Hill’s hosting of the event is traced back to Travis Dancy, VLN’s sports marketing director, who heard about the Warrior Dash program during a sports marketing convention in Colorado last year.
