CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A dozen candidates have added their names to ballots for Nov. 5 elections in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. Filing closes at noon Friday.

Candidate filing for the November election opened July 5 and, as of 2 p.m. Wednesday, offered no real surprises.

In Cornelius, incumbent Dave Gilroy filed for town board, as did Del Arrendale and Woody Washam Jr. Commissioner Chuck Travis filed for mayor last week. As of Wednesday afternoon, Travis was the only candidate to file for the seat currently held by Lynette Rinker, who has announced she will not seek re-election.

Commissioner John Bradford had already filed for re-election. Jim Duke and William Sykes filed for the commission race last week

In Davidson, Stacey Anderson, Rick Short and Vince Winegardner filed for the town board. Incumbent commissioners Jim Fuller, Rodney Graham, Brian Jenest and Connie Wessner already had filed for re-election, as had Mayor John Woods.

In Huntersville, incumbent commissioners Melinda Bales, Charles Guignard, Ron Julian, Jeff Neely and Danny Phillips put their names on the ballot for re-election. Franklin Freeman also filed. Mayor Jill Swain filed last week for re-election to a fourth term. Incumbent Commissioner Sarah McAulay filed last week, as did Rob Kidwell and Nick Walsh.
