It was previously reported that Mooney set the state’s career home run record with 37 blasts, and she tied the single-season home run mark with 19 this spring, a number also posted by Eastern Randolph’s Dallas Heaton this year. But after hitting .779 (60-for-77) during her senior season, Mooney also has the record for the best single-season batting average in state history (her .566 career average is third best).
If that’s not enough, it was announced Tuesday that Mooney was named to the National Fast pitchCoaches Association’s All-American First Team for the second straight year.
“She’s a once-in-a-lifetime girl,” Viking coach Paul Kikta said this spring. “She’s that good. I hope everybody appreciates what they’re seeing out there.”
Mooney tied the state record with three home run games against Mallard Creek and Vance this year, and she progressively hit more round-trippers each year. She hit one home run as a freshman, seven as a sophomore, 10 as a junior and 19 as a senior.
Other Mooney mentions in the record book include her 55 RBIs in a season (second), her 140 career RBIs (fifth), her 60 hits in a season (fourth) and her 171 career hits (fifth).
Mooney was a starter and all-conference selection for all four years and was named the I-Meck Conference Player of the Year the past two seasons.
She will play at James Madison University next year.
