Senior Center still needs new home

Written by

About this time two years ago, the North Meck Senior Center was just trying to remain in existence. Now, the center is looking for a new home.

The North Meck Senior Center has been housed in a church building at 18731 W. Catawba Ave., in Cornelius, but is required to find a new location to continue its operations. The center needs about 6,000 square feet of indoor space weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include line dancing and chair exercise classes, card-playing, bingo, knitting, a book club and special classes such as flower arranging and basket making.

There are monthly birthday celebrations and catered lunches as well as lectures, which cover a variety of topics — legal, medical and educational. For many seniors who live alone, the Senior Center is a home away from home where they go for friendship, exercise and information. It is also a place to volunteer and give back to the community.

Anyone with suggestions for available space, or who has available space the center can rent, contact Joanne Ahern at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 704-892-4041.
