Senior Awards and Scholarships

Several members of the North Mecklenburg High School Class of 2011 were recognized for outstanding achievement and presented scholarships during the recent “Senior Awards Day” ceremonies at the school. Scholarships, and those selected to receive the awards, are:

• Angels of ’97 scholarships: Kathryn Jeffords, Andrew Yost and Sara Miles.

• North Mecklenburg PTSA: Jamaica Boyd, James Davis, Carol Dukes, Brandon Fagel, Stephanie Gamba, Steven Handel, Cherise Hardiman , Lisa Myers, Ben Pluer, and Kaitlyn Wright.

• SECU Foundation: Austin Schneider.

• Alpha Kappa Alpha – Rho Psi Omega Chapter: Kathlyn Davis and Alexandra Pitts.

• Lowe’s Carl Buchan Scholarship: Sara Miles.

• Wilson-Beatty VFW: Erin Lehnert.

• Huntersville-North Mecklenburg Civic Association: Ashley Frost and Latham York.

• North Mecklenburg Alumni Association: James Davis.

• North Mecklenburg Athletic Boosters/Jimmy K. Poole Scholarship: Samantha Garst, Andrew Yost, Megan Sullivan and Patrick Harrow.

• Charlotte Observer Top Scholar: Emily Cathey.

• CPCC Scholarship: Emily Bradley and Erin Nichols.

• Charlotte Post Top Seniors: Cherise Hardiman, Ashley Frost and Kathlyn Davis.

• Marine Corps Certificates of Recognition: Patrick Harrow and Tatum McKee, Distinguished Athletes; Alyssa Lewis, Scholastic Excellence; and Christine Shin, Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence.

• FFA Horticulture: Lindsey Zamiela and Chris Westmoreland.

• David Erdman Duke University Engineering: Charlotte Lawrence.

 

Lake Norman Charter

At the Lake Norman Charter Senior Awards Ceremony on May 18, members of the Legacy Class of 2011 were recognized for their accomplishments:

• Key Club Service Award: Erik Foran.

• LN Charter Drama Club Award: Adrienne Kaplan and Austin Baughan.

• Student Council Leadership & Service Award: Gib Baker and Emily Markey.

• Math Department Award: Tia Fish.

• Science Department Award: Ashley McCoy.

• English Department Award: Robbie Ross.

• Social Studies Award: Caroline Gill.

• Spanish Language Award: Liz Bernardo.

• French Language Award and French National Honors Society: Adrienne Kaplan.

• Performing Arts Award: Jennifer Heilpern.

• Visual Arts Award: Hannah Goncharow.

• Physical Achievement Award: Robbie Ross.

• Huntersville-North Mecklenburg Civic Association Scholarship, VFW Post 9736 College Scholarship and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Governmental Retirees Association Scholarship: Mary Dixon.

• DAR Good Citizen LNC Nominee: McKenzie Coey.

• National Merit Scholarship Commended Student :Liz Bernardo.

• Top Seniors: Beau Brilhante (who recognized math teacher Craig Zamiara), Newel Cobb (teacher Melissa Smith), Erik Foran (health/PE teacher Lee Kidder), Emily Markey (science teacher Kyle Pierce), Meaghan Noble (social studies teacher Marc Pecorella), and Lauren Somloi (teacher Leigh Ann Williams).

• GE Star Award: Lauren Somloi.

• GE Star Award Faculty Winner: Leigh Ann Williams (science teacher, nominated by Lauren Somloi).

• North Carolina Teaching Fellows Alternate: Audrey Bolick.

• Regional Scholastic Arts Award: Kristi Chan and Meaghan Noble.

• Principal’s Leadership Award LNC Nominee: Liz Bernardo.

• Katie Gergely Memorial Scholarship: Ashley McCoy and Beau Brilhante.

• Kiwanis Club Scholarship: Ashley McCoy and Lauren Somloi.

• Community Blood Center of the Carolinas Scholarship: Lauren Somloi and Andrew Barsuhn.

All seniors who were offered scholarships and grants were recognized. The seniors offered the most college scholarship money were Grayson Spittel ($267,156), Stormi Johnson ($260,900), Jordan Phillips ($256,098), Samantha Mix ($237,700), and Lauren Somloi ($215,286). In total,the Lake Norman Charter School Class of 2011 was offered $4,201,852 in scholarships and grants.
