Area student takes electric co-op tour

Written by

A student from Huntersville is in Washington, D.C., this week as a participant in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.

Mariana Danie, the daughter of Paul and Arlene Danie, is one of two rising seniors sponsored by EnergyUnited at this year’s conference. Danie is a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham.

The program in Washington gives students the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital while learning first-hand that it’s like to be involved in politics, community service and discussions concerning today’s pressing issues in the energy industry.

The week’s schedule of events included meetings with state representatives and senators, visits to sessions of Congress, educational seminars and trips to museums, landmarks and historical sites.

EnergyUnited serves more than 120,000 electricity customers in 19 counties, stretching from Mecklenburg to the Virginia border. The company also provides propane to 23,000 customers in 74 counties in North and South Carolina.
