Susan Lamoureux dropped 4.4 pounds during the week, raising her two week weight-loss total to more than 10 pounds, to tie Howard Kaplan for Week 2 honors in the "losing weight and getting healthy" competition featuring area residents.
In all, the 11 participants in the local event dropped 30 pounds to surpass the 70-pound mark in just two full weeks since the initial weigh-in that signified the start of the 10-week program inspired by Huntersville resident Emily Joy's participation as a contestant on The Biggest Loser television show.
The Biggest Loser-Huntersville features a coordinated effort to provide planned exercise routines and healthy living education to the participants. Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center and Fleet Feet in Birkdale Village are providing the daily programs for the participants with support from contributing sponsors Earth Fare, Lakeside Family Physicians and the Lake Norman Citizen.
Each week, Monday through Friday, HFFA and Fleet Feet are providing up to 10 hours of supervised instruction and activities for the local Biggest Loser candidates. In addition, participants are encouraged to make lifestyle adjustments coinciding with their new-found commitment to fitness.
The local participants, nine from Huntersville and Cornelius and one each from Mooresville and Charlotte, include six women and five men, ranging in age from 31 to 56 and starting the program at weights ranging from 203 up to 300 pounds. All had different backgrounds and dealt with various personal issues and physical setbacks en route to their current condition, but all expressed a uniform desire to drop weight, live healthier and follow through on the 10-week program outlined by HFFA and Fleet Feet.
Here are the results of TBL-H participants, listed with their initial weight, their week-two weight check and week-two weight loss: Rick Christian, 265, 255.2 (3.2); Debbie Dirkse, 217, 213.2 (3.8); David Ginn, 265, 257.4 (1.6); Scott Hannay, 301.8. 293.2 (3.4); Kaplan, 291, 280.2 (4.4); Lamoureux, 234.6, 225 (4.4); Kris McCabe, 256, 253.2 (2); Maria Schubert, 204, 202.6 (0); Chris Wages, 272, 266.6 (2.4); Stephanie Ann Weller, 239, 232 (3); and Kristen Winseman, 246, 242.6, (0).
