The 'gentle art'

Written by  Staff Report

There's a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in town and it's not your typical martial arts school.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu is now open at 148 Lugnut Lane, Suite 202 (off Stutts Road) in Mooresville, offering classes for children, adults and self-defense for women with a free introductory class to all prospective new members.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), translated as "the gentle art," is a unique form of physical activity, aiding in greater aerobic and anaerobic capabilities while increasing muscle tone and decreasing the percentage of body fat.

Ranard Brown (above right), a UFC trainer and second-degree brown belt, is a senior instructor at the Royce Gracie Academy in Mooresville. A personal friend of Royce Gracie (above left), considered the most famous BJJ fighter, Brown holds several world champion titles and was the first inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2003. For more information or to sign up for a complimentary class, visit www.gracielakenorman.com or call Brown at 704-453-3646.
