The show is big in every respect: a large cast of 50 spanning all ages including children in two key roles, an elaborate set, quickly changing scenes, an intriguing story line, a monumental musical score, and a subject matter that embraces the indomitable nature of human will.
E.L. Doctorow’s sweeping novel is brought to life in this song and dance show that intertwines three disparate New York families just after the turn of the century — a wealthy white couple; a Jewish immigrant father and his motherless daughter; and an African American piano player who teaches them about the interconnections of the human heart, the limitations of justice, and the consequences of letting go of a dream. Historical figures such as Harry Houdini, J.P. Morgan and Emma Goldman inhabit the play, but it is the stirring musical score that carries the show, including gospel, marches, cakewalks and, of course, ragtime.
Ragtime will be directed by DCP Artistic Director Melissa Ohlman-Roberge. The show will be performed in Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall June 16-18 at 8 p.m., June 23-25 at 8 p.m., and June 19 and June 25 at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $22 for adults, $20 for seniors ages 65 and older, and $12 for ages 20 and younger. Ragtime is recommended for ages 13 and older.
