We offer this occasional series as your introduction to our volunteer advisors — just a few of your neighbors who truly make local business tick.
Joshua Dobi is the managing member of Dobi Financial Group, LLC, located in Cornelius. He has been involved in the investment management/financial services business for almost 15 years and has clients in more than 20 states.
The primary focus of his firm is investment management for his clients, both individuals and businesses, which often is the most dynamic part of their financial lives. In addition, DFG provides life insurance, retirement planning and estate planning/management for a holistic approach that provides a well-rounded foundation.
Dobi is actively involved in the north Mecklenburg community through his church, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce and the North Mecklenburg Rotary. In his leisure time, he enjoys time with wife, Kerri, and new daughter, Emily, in the community and on the waters of Lake Norman. He also enjoys classical music and high school/college athletics.
• What three words best describe your business style?
Thankful, compassionate and conservative.
• Who are your mentors, business or otherwise, and why?
A dear friend and retired seminary professor who took time he didn't have to teach and live out the importance of treating others well.
• How do you balance work, personal and leisure time?
Not very well. It is a work in progress, although, a seven-month-old daughter has helped immensely!
• What advice would you give a local entrepreneurial hopeful?
Work hard to find a mentor/friend/firm in the field you wish to pursue who may help you avoid a lot of the pitfalls inherent in the early stages.
• If you had it to do over again, what professional path would you choose?
Thankfully, exactly where I am today.
• What about being a business owner/leader makes your PULSE race?
The mutual enjoyment of close relationships with my clients — in my business, there is nothing like it.
