Tragedy prompts fundraiser for the Burns boys

Written by

The recent unexpected death of 34-year-old David Burns has spurred his friends into action to raise funds for his widow, Amanda, and three young sons ages 5, 3 and 10 months. Burns attended Davidson College, where he played basketball, and was recently inducted into the Bishop McGuiness High School Sports Hall of Fame.

With the support of lakenormanmommies.com, family friends have quickly put together a fundraiser called "For The Boys," a silent auction, bake sale and yard sale that will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kids Emporium, 18724 Statesville Road in Cornelius. Little Dreamers Productions owner Scott Humphries is volunteering his time to entertain guests.

The David Burns Memorial Family Trust has been established, to which donations will be accepted. Silent auction items have already been donated by Al's Auto, Alton's Kitchen & Cocktails, Author Squad, BounceU, David's Salon & Spa, Eez Fusion, Fox & Hound, GC Regal Cinemas, Gymboree Play & Music, Innovative Speed Shop, Kid Time, Kid's Emporium, Kilwin's, Little Gym, Marin Mason Photography, Massage Envy, Monkey Joe's, Northcross Lanes, Red Rocks, Sail Again Consignment, Scentsy, Signs by Tiffany, Snooky Smiles Photography, Sugar and Spice Scrubs, Tenders, Teri's Kidz Consignment, The Baker's Joint, Thirty-One Gifts, Zoe's Kitchen, Zootastic and more.

Yard sale items can be dropped off at Kids' Emporium Friday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All unsold items will be donated to Lydia's Loft and The Bin in Huntersville. Gift cards and monetary donations may also be mailed to The David Burns Memorial Family Trust, c/o Mike Anderson, Hunton & Williams LLP, Bank of America Plaza, 101 South Tryon Street, Suite 3500, Charlotte, NC 28280.
