Pedestrians hit on Statesville road

Two pedestrians were seriously injured when struck while crossing Statesville Road Monday evening. At 8:45 p.m., Huntersville Police were dispatched to the area of 14601 Statesville Road where, according to witnesses, a Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Statesville Road struck two females as they attempted to cross the road, walking toward Deer Hill II Apartments.

The pedestrians have been identified as 51-year-old Veronica Dukes and 18-year-old Tashunda Dukes. The driver of the vehicle was on scene when officers arrived. Both pedestrians were transported to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries. The Huntersville Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is continuing its investigation.
