Probe remains open after arson arrest

Written by

The investigation remains open, but Cornelius police last Friday arrested a suspect for a string of home arsons on Meadow Crossing Lane in the Glenhurst subdivision. And the suspect is a resident of the street himself.

Cornelius police arrested 31-year-old Robert Joseph Prevatte of 10245 Meadow Crossing Lane on two counts of first-degree arson, two counts of second-degree arson, and two counts of burning personal property. The charges are related to Meadow Crossing Lane fires on Dec. 21, 2010, at 10524; April 8. 2011, at 10246; May 31, 2011, at 10211; and Aug. 27, 2011 at 10250. He is being held in Mecklenburg County Jail on $480,000 bond.

Police say the investigation will continue, and will extend to providing assistance to agencies in other states where Cornelius Police Detectives have discovered similar patterns of suspicious fires related to the suspect’s movements in the past.

Residents are asked to contact the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773 with any information pertaining to the arson investigation. Callers can remain anonymous. Because the investigation is ongoing, police are not releasing further details at this time.
