Local high schools honor queens, kings

Written by

The 2011 homecoming kings and queens, and their courts, have been selected at three north Mecklenburg high schools.

At the conclusion of week-long homecoming celebrations, recent football Fridays have included the recognition of student honorees at Hopewell, Hough and North Meck high schools.

At Hopewell, homecoming night wrapped up spirit week activities that included a pep rally, karaoke at lunch and the distribution of homecoming T-shirts. Hopewell’s 2011 homecoming court was ruled by seniors Meghan Lane, queen; and Dylan Moses, king.

Hopewell class princesses were Bria Washington, junior; Faith Lee, sophomore; and Eva Bertone, freshman.

At Hough, the two-year-old school’s inaugural homecoming program followed a week of themed activities at the school. At last Friday’s football game, seniors Wesli Jones, queen, and Brandon Mobley, king, were honored as the school’s first royal couple. Class princesses for this year are Erin Lassiter, junior; Erin Barksdale, sophomore; and Madison Davis, freshman.

At North, the time-honored traditions continued with a week of special school-day events culminating with the crowning of homecoming winners. 2011 senior honorees are Lauren Calucag, queen, and Matthew Coss, king. Class princesses are Bethannie Jamerson, junior; Brittany Abanukam, sophomore; Yazmyne Brown, freshman.
