The Cornelius Historic Preservation Commission will host a new guided walking tour, “South of Catawba,” Saturday, Oct. 22, starting at 10 a.m. at Cornelius Town Hall. Along the 1.25-mile route, walkers will learn about when and how the gown was incorporated, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, local historic landmark designations, Olde Mill Village, Gem Yarn Mill, Cotton Gin, the history of Cornelius Elementary School, and other sites of interest.
The tour, which will last from 90 minutes to two hours, promotes the work of historic preservation, encourages exercise suitable for the family, educates students, residents and visitors about the evolution of Cornelius, encourages activity in town center, and introduces walkers to businesses.
