Youth auditions for state program

Written by

Young musicians from the north Mecklenburg area are invited to take part in auditions for the North Carolina Symphony Youth Sinfonietta.

Auditions for the exclusive chamber orchestra, consisting of musicians 14 to 19 years old from throughout the state and led by the Symphony’s staff of conductors, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Meymandi Concert Hall in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh.

Twice each year, members of the Youth Sinfonietta meet for a week of intensive coaching with Symphony musicians and rehearsals with Symphony conductors. The experience culminates with a public performance held in Raleigh.

Applicants for the program must be North Carolina residents between the ages of 14 and 19 enrolled in a North Carolina school. Applications and additional information about the auditions are available at www.ncsymphony.org/education.
