A conservative for the Red Line
Real conservatives like commuter trains. Why? Because we ride them . Chicago's excellent Metra commuter train system provides examples. If we look at Lake County, a wealthy area served by Metra's trains, we find 13 percent of commuters with incomes of more than $75,000 take the train rather than drive to work. In fact, the mean earnings of rail commuters were higher than $76,000; the figure for bus riders was less than $14,000.

Editor,
As the world is painfully learning from the ongoing drama in Greece this year, when governments are loaned money, it’s actually not free, and the bill must be paid someday.

More local produce at Harris-Teeter
Editor,
I was glad to see the article in this past week’s edition showcasing a local resident who has managed to get her products into the Earth Fare in Huntersville, but I must disagree with your reporter’s assertion that Earth Fare is known for including local products in its stores. I know several local farmers and vendors who have been trying to deal with Earth Fare for the past few years, with no luck.

You, Mr. Warfield are an idiot!
Editor,
A copy of your “Final Thoughts” published on July 8, 2011 concerning under age drinking was given to me and I found it very entertaining. The person that gave me a copy (I do not live in Huntersville and therefore do not have the pleasure of reading your trashing newspaper weekly) knew that you were specifically talking about me in your article since I had expressed my thoughts with them. I guess I must have made a lasting impression on you.
Fire CMS staff or get out of the way
Editor,
I read Commissioner (Karen) Bentley’s letter to the editor (“New school will happen for 2013,” the Citizen, July 15) and must respectfully disagree. The new “rank order” mandate from the county is far different in my opinion than what she described in her letter. As with most things in this world, the devil is in the details.
