The Cornelius Arts Center recently announced its “People’s Choice” award winner in the annual Beyond Walls Public Art Exhibition. Boreas, created by sculptor Jonathan Bowling using found and forged steel, was selected for that honor and will be part of the Beyond Walls exhibit at Robbins Park that runs through January 2018. Bowling says Boreas is part of a series of steel horses he’s been working on over the last 10 years. “The materials I use are often from the turn of the century,” he says, “which I feel is appropriate for depicting an animal so intertwined with our agrarian past.” A Kentucky native, Bowling works out of his studio in Greenville, where he has been based since earning a master’s degree in fine arts from East Carolina University.
