Football Super Fan

Written by

This week opens the high school football season, soon to be followed by college and the National Football League. For some, it’s the best time of the year, and for the super fan, it’s the best time of his (or her) life. The super fan has been gearing up for this night since last December. He’s dusted off his old high school jersey, sent his letterman’s jacket to the cleaners and polished up the lenses of his binoculars in preparation for the 2011 football season, coming soon to a high school stadium near you. He took a break from his body painting to answer our questions as this week’s Fellow Citizen.

What is your current state of mind?

Are you ready for some football!?!

What makes you happy?

Friday nights with a nip in the air. I believe they call that football weather.

What qualities do you value in a friend?

Loyalty and reliability. That, and good hands and 4.4 speed in the 40.

What do you regret about your youth?

That I didn’t win the Heisman Trophy. But I still have all of my college eligibility, so there’s always hope.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Good hands and 4.4 speed in the 40.

Where is your favorite place?

The 50-yard line, 15 rows up.

What would you do if you hit the lottery?

Cover my yard with field turf. Think the neighbors would mind stadium lights?

On what occasion do you lie?

When I tell people I used to have good hands and 4.4 speed in the 40.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

That I got through my own high school football career without getting a paper cut from flipping pages on the clipboard on the sidelines.

What is your best quality?

See what occasions when I lie.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Hmm, let’s see. I’d like to have good hands and 4.4 speed in the 40.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Marching bands at halftime.

What would you rather be doing right now?

Showing off my 4.4 speed down the sideline after catching a bubble screen with my good hands.
