Laura Fitzgerald’s name is already familiar to those who enjoy reading the masthead on the right side of this page. She’s the new summer intern here at the Citizen, and despite our best efforts she remains interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism and sports broadcasting. A rising junior at UNC-Wilmington, she is the daughter of Daniel and Patricia Fitzgerald of Huntersville. She’s also this week’s Fellow Citizen.

 What is your current state of mind? 

I need to finish my news briefs before deadline.

 

What makes you happy? 

 Seeing the Celtics and Red Sox Win.

 

What qualities do you value in a friend?

  Honesty, loyalty and a positive attitude.

 

If you had a motto, what would it be?

 Don’t worry, be happy!

 

What do you regret about your youth? 

 That I didn’t play softball while swimming in high school.

 

Which talent would you most like to have?

 To be a skilled photographer. 

 

Where is your favorite place?

 Boston and Hawaii.

 

Who is your hero? 

 My mother, Patricia Fitzgerald. She’s my best friend and the strongest woman I have ever met.

 

What would you do if you hit the lottery?

 Travel the world for a year.

 

On what occasion do you lie?

 When someone asks if I am studying for finals.

 

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

 Making Dean’s List in college and having this awesome internship.

 

What is your greatest treasure?

My Irish claddagh ring my parents bought me in Ireland.

 

What is your best quality?

 I’m motivated to succeed in life.

 

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

 I have really expensive taste in restaurants and travel destinations. So, I would change my income to a higher level. As in, actually get paid.

 

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

 Lobster and scallops. I love seafood.

 

What would you rather be doing right now?

 Parasailing in the Caribbean.
