Tim Queen

Written by

High school swimming success follows Tim Queen everywhere he goes. Or perhaps he creates that success. The laid-back swimming coach at Hough High School just last weekend notched his seventh swimming state championship, coaching the girls' team to a runaway, record-setting victory. Previously, he has coached Shelby High School to five state titles and North Meck High to one. Now that the swimming season is over, the coach had a little time to answer our questions as this week's Fellow Citizen.

What is your current state of mind?

According to my wife and kids "crazy" seems to be the consensus.

What qualities do you value in a friend?

Honesty, loyalty and a sense of humor.

What do you regret about your youth?

Placing a for sale sign in a former girlfriend's yard on a weekly basis.

What is your favorite place?

Besides grandma's house, I would say Colorado.

What would you do if you hit the lottery?

Pay my homeowners association dues.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

Talking my wife into marrying me, and then convincing her to stay with me for 25 years.

On what occasion do you lie?

When asked if I fed the cat.

What is your best quality?

My ability to laugh at my mistakes. Although my wife says it is my ability to block out her request for help with house work.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would go back to the 1980s and shave that mustache.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Starbucks Coffee.

What would you rather be doing right now?

Watching the sunrise over the ocean while drinking a Starbucks Coffee.
