Megan Balot

Written by

Megan Balot is a 21-year-old senior at UNCC, majoring in Communications/Public Relations and is an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She just applied for May 2012 graduation this week. She was born in Charlotte, has lived in Huntersville since she was two years old and graduated from Hopewell High School. She was a competitive cheerleader for six years. Megan agreed (with very little arm-twisting) to take a break from cramming for finals to be our Fellow Citizen this week.

What is your current state of mind?

Hopeful. My glass is always half full ... and it's usually filled with milk.

What makes you happy?

Skydiving, and knowing that I did something to make someone smile.

What qualities do you value in a friend?

Bluntness, common sense over booksmarts, and a sense of humor.

What do you regret about your youth?

Quitting soccer.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I would like to be better at golf. I love the sport, but I'm still a beginner.

Where is your favorite place?

The deck of a cruise ship overlooking the sunrise on a Caribbean island.

What would you do if you hit the lottery?

Buy my parents a new house and puppy, get my friends through college, and buy my brother almost anything he asked for (he's hard to shop for...).

On what occasion do you lie?

When girls ask me why I think a boy doesn't like them.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

1) In 5 months, I'll be the first person in my immediate family to graduate from a four-year university; 2) I got to pin Jerry Richardson's first UNCC pin on his suit at the press conference where the name of UNCC's football field was announced: McCall-Richardson Field.

What is your best quality?

Staying optimistic, especially when my friends need some cheering up.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would improve my time management skills (or lack of) when it comes to my school work.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Ghirardelli caramel chocolate squares.

What would you rather be doing right now?

Cruising, hanging out with my ZTA sisters, decorating someone's home, or being creative somehow.
