Weir says the center — a 130-bed senior living facility on Glenwood Drive in Mooresville — will receive a check from Aquesta to fulfill the wish or need of one or more of its residents. In addition, Aquesta has released the newest edition of Time of Your Life, a 30-minute nostalgic video designed to help seniors relive the music, news, television, radio, sporting events and pop culture from the 1920s through the 1960s. Weir says the video will be available in participating area nursing homes and senior living facilities.
Its “Wish Come True” check donation and distribution of the Time of Your Life video series are part of Aquesta’s participation in the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Memphis, Tenn., that operates as a conduit for banks to fulfill their federally mandated Community Reinvestment Act requirements.
Through the foundation, banks are able to make fully secured loans or investments, with the foundation using a portion of the yield earned on those transactions to operate its Senior Crimestoppers crime prevention program in participating nursing homes for the benefit of their residents.
Crime against some of the most vulnerable members of society, the elderly, is a long-standing battle, and the Senior Crimestoppers program has proven effective in several facilities across the country. The program provides personal lock boxes for residents, cash rewards paid anonymously for information about crime incidents and effective, ongoing education. Senior Crimestoppers operates in nursing homes and Housing and Urban Development facilities in 47 states, and has reduced all aspects of crime by more than 90 percent through June 2011.
