We’re from the government and here to help ... really!

Ribbon cuttings, grand openings and existing business expansion are all hopeful signs of an economy on the rebound, and it seems we are beginning to regularly see some of those glimmers of hope in the Lake Norman region.

As the business community grows, so will its need for skilled workers.

The Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of four job hunting seminars as part of its Fall 2011 offerings, in partnership with Monica White, PhD, a professional psychologist with more than 15 years of experience in enhancing her clients’ career development. White specializes in client self-assessment, goal setting and self marketing.

Seminars are held on either Monday mornings (9:30-11 a.m.) or Tuesday evenings (7:15-8:45p.m.) and are $25 each. Here is what White has in store for the eager job seeker:

• Powerful Resumes (Sept. 19 or 20): Resumes are often your first introduction to an employer. Learn how to make your resume a successful marketing tool for you. Whether you have never done a resume before, or if you have a final product, you will learn how to make yours as powerful as it can be.

• Successful Interviewing (Sept. 26 or 27): You have gotten the interview — now it is time to impress the employer. Learn all the secrets to successful interview preparation, how to present yourself and what to do after the interview.

• The Key to a Successful Job Search (Oct. 3 or 4): If it feels like your job search has been going on forever, perhaps your job search method might need tweaking. Learn the most effective ways to conduct your job search so that your time invested pays off for you as quickly as possible.

• Staying Motivated in the Job Search (Oct. 10 or 11): In today’s economy it can be easy to become discouraged and lose confidence during a job search. Learn techniques to energize your job search and build your confidence to keep going until you land that job.

Registration is required, and can be done online at www.d-Recs.org or by calling the Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation Department offices at 704-892-3349. Seminars will be held at the parks and rec offices at 416 Armour Street in Davidson.
